Fourth Greenedge Training Event

Home // 4th School @CEA-LIST (Palaiseau, Paris)

Greenedge School no. 4, held at CEA-LIST on March 27-31, 2023

The fourth Greenedge training event has been held at the Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives – laboratorie d’integrégration de systèmes et de technologies (CEA-LIST) in Palaiseau (Paris), France. Many prominent speakers from industry, academy and research centers have participated, delivering lectures and talks on edge computing (from Nokia France), on network automation (from CNAM) and on more theoretical topics such as neural network search, anomaly recognition in data streams and multitask learning. We were honoured by the participation of prof. Florence d’Alché-Buc from Telecom Paris and Board member of the Ellis Society and Hugues Ferreboeuf, Director of the Shift Project on the transition to a post-carbon economy.

Prof. Florence d’Alché-Buc has provided an illuminating talk on the sustainability problem of AI, discussing several ways in which we, as researchers, can work to improve its energy efficiency and demand. Hugues Ferreboeuf has provided a wonderful talk on the energy cost of ICT, discussing the current paths on global warming and the impact that ICT technology has on carbon emissions. Long story short: WE DO NEED TO HURRY UP, as there is NO MUCH TIME LEFT TO ACT. Energy frugality must permeate every aspect of our society, as the survival of our species is at stake.
